Home Workouts Without Weights

For many the gym environment can be an uncomfortable place, many people will join a gym to address some issues they have with their body, however being surrounded and intimidated by the other gym goers is all too common and many people will give up on their goals due to their awkwardness around the gym floor. I have worked with many people who do not enjoy the gym as much as I do; some due to the environment and others just do not like the weights based training on offer there.

How can we get an effective workout without weights?
Your bodyweight is the most effective tool you have at your disposal to allow you to train and build strength, fitness and endurance.
All of the moves you perform in the gym effectively simulate a natural motion your body performs.
The bench press is a pushing motion, which allows you to push objects away from you, or your body away from an object. Push ups will develop your pectorals and triceps while pushing your body away from the floor. Push ups can be made harder, or easier if need be, by a repositioning of the body weight to increase or reduce the load on the muscles, simply elevate you feet to make harder or elevate you hands to make them easier
.
The squat is a sitting and standing motion. Squats can be performed with your bodyweight only with great effect and can be taken to a greater level if performed with one leg, effectively doubling the load on the muscles to build added strength.

The core muscles are often a great focus as a six pack is seen as the ultimate sign of a fit and toned individual. There are literally thousands of core exercises which can be done with no equipment to work the lower back and abdominals. Static moves such as the plank and side plank (some prefer bridge instead of plank) will develop the core muscles, both abs and back, while the spine is straight allowing muscle development without causing any lower back or neck injuries.

Performing excessive numbers of crunches or squats can create a muscular imbalance which can lead to lower back pain. Poor form is also responsible for many neck injuries.
The gym is not the only way to build strength and improve fitness, you can work with your bodyweight to get stronger, get quicker and go longer, whatever your fitness goals may be.
